Biography
Galivantes are an eight-piece rowdy 'trumpet-punk' band from Manchester whose sound is hard to pin down – not least because we have three lead singers and a range of influences from skapunk, reggae, disco, folk and rock. We are possibly best described as a blend of The Pixies and Sublime, mixing strong driving beats with fiery vocals, crunching guitars, funky bass, and a chaotic cacophony of brass, all wrapped up around a politically charged power-to-the-people message.
Over the years we've been honoured with performing alongside such great and diverse acts such as Akala, Honeyfeet, DJ Woody, and the Hackney Colliery Band, chosen to perform at the launch party of HOME Mcr organised by Danny Boyle, and have headlined stages at UK music festivals such as Kendal Calling and Shambala, and Audio-farm. We've even had a beer named after us!
"If there is gonna be a revolution, Galivantes are going to be the soundtrack"
Galivantes have played at various UK festivals such as Boomtown Fair, Beat-Herder and Audio Farm, including headline slots on stages at Kendal Calling and Shambala. Over the years we have supported acts as diverse as Akala, Sea of Mirth and Honeyfeet, as well as playing all manner of gigs including ones on cherry pickers, at Pagan festivals, in swimming pools, and for climate science conferences.
“Change is coming, and it’s wielding a trumpet”
Galivantes have picked up many fans along the way, including BAFTA award winning comedian Sophie Willan, and multiple-award winning puppeteer/director Emily Morys-Jones who reached outand offered to help make the Galivantes music video ‘Wounds’. Another fan of notoriety is YouTube sensation Colin Furz who has often featured Galivantes songs on the soundtrack of his videos.
Galivantes also run our own venue, The Old Abbey Taphouse complete with band rehearsal room, recording studio, ethical kitchen, and Microbrewery.
